Physical and Xanadu
Newton-John performed in the 1980 movie Xanadu, which wasn’t as popular as Grease and received negative reviews while having a cult following, but it did provide the Electric Light Orchestra two big singles: “Magic” and the title track “Xanadu.”
Her best-selling signature song, “Physical,” from the double-platinum selling album Physical that she released in 1981, strayed from the singer’s typically tidy persona with its suggestive lyrics.
Fight against cancer
In 1992, Newton-John received her initial breast cancer diagnosis. After receiving treatment, she made a full recovery and started supporting breast cancer research.
For several years, her cancer was in remission; but, in 2013, it came back. After entering remission, it made a third appearance in 2013 and metastasized to her lower back.
The singer maintained her good attitude and persisted in advocating for research despite her fight with illness.
“I’ve been through this three times, and I’m so lucky to still be alive. I put up with it. She expressed her gratitude in this way to 60 Minutes Australia.
“We know that we will die at some point, but we are unsure of when. When you receive a cancer diagnosis or another ominous, honest diagnostic, the potential of a time restriction is abruptly presented to you, she said. Therefore, each day is a gift.
Olivia Newton-John, the amazing singer, may you rest in peace. We’ll always be fans of your music and iconic Grease performance.
