With “I Honestly Love You,” which peaked at number one on the charts and won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year, she had her biggest hit to date.
‘Grease’
Olivia Newton-John became well-known because to her recording career, but many people are more familiar with her thanks to Sandy, the character she played in the beloved musical picture Grease.
Grease is a musical comedy about teenagers in the 1950s that was adapted from a hugely successful Broadway production. Newton-John portrayed Sandy, an Australian “nice girl” who fell in love with the neighborhood greaser Danny Zuko (John Travolta).
Grease became a big hit thanks to Newton-star John’s power; it was the top grossing movie of the year and held the record for highest grossing movie musical for decades.

I’m quite fortunate to have taken part in it. So many people have enjoyed it.
It also gave rise to one of the all-time best-selling soundtracks. Many Grease songs, including “Summer Nights,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” and the number-one “You’re the One That I Want,” all starring Newton-John, made it onto the charts.
Regarding the movie’s 40th anniversary, Newton-John stated to Billboard in 2018, “I think the songs are ageless.” They’re entertaining and really spirited. The music with a ’50s vibe has always been well-liked and nostalgic for my generation; it appears that young kids rediscover it every ten years or so. People bought the CD as a method to recall their feelings while watching the movie and their feelings at the time. I’m incredibly appreciative to have contributed to this timeless film.
